We will extend outreach and support to those in need.

Goal 1

Develop a collaborative-wide Bereavement Ministry with 12-20 ministers by April 1, 2017.

1.    (October 31, 2016) Groundwork:

  • Identify potential bereavement ministers from existing minister pool.
  • Evaluate existing bereavement training materials.
  • Develop and prepare any homemade training materials.
  • Develop scope of the ministry.
  • Develop procedures when funeral home calls.

2.    (November 30, 2016) Advertise the need for this ministry:

  • Within the bulletin.
  • Website, email.
  • Informational meeting.

3.    (January 31, 2017) Recruitment:

  • Extend a personal invitation.
  • Scan parish census databases.
  • Identify a minister coordinator.
  • Use CORI training and forms.

4.    (March 15, 2017) Education:

  • Train ministers.
  • Create bulletin articles.
  • Extend funeral/bereavement section of the website.
  • Train parish phone receptionists on procedures.

5.    (April 1, 2017) Implementation:

  • Establish a start date.
  • Send letters to funeral homes detailing the plan/procedures.
  • Develop a minister scheduling system.


Goal 2

Expand our current ministry to the homebound by adding 15-30 visitation schedules by June 30, 2017.

1.    (August 31, 2016) Evaluate the current ministry:

  • Who are providing this ministry.
  • Who is being visited.

2.    (November 30, 2016) Recruit new visitation ministers via:

  • Personal Invitation.
  • Bulletin.
  • Website, email.
  • Homilies and announcements.

3.    (January 31, 2017) Train new ministers:

  • Review of Eucharistic theology.
  • Walk through of the Church’s rite.
  • Explain general procedures.
  • Complete CORI & Protecting God’s Children.
  • Develop visitation tracking procedures.

4.    (June 30, 2017) Implementation:

  • Market this ministry to parishioners in order to ascertain those in need.
  • Commission ministers at weekend Mass.
  • Distribute copies of the Communion rite to the ministers.
  • Visit the homebound.
